Economic news
If you’re interested in local or national politics, paying attention to economic news is probably a must. It’s easy to get burned out on political debates and squabbles, but being able to understand what’s going on (and know when your representative is voting on an issue) makes a huge difference. Start following certain publications—The Wall Street Journal , The Economist , Time , Newsweek . Pick up a subscription if possible. Local newspapers usually carry good local-news sections as well (especially if they have dedicated beat reporters). Look at what they report and follow along with your representatives. Talk to people around you who pay attention to similar topics and see if they recommend anything else worth looking into. Don’t feel like reading?
There are also a few great resources that can help you track political news and easily keep up with your representatives’ voting records. They include: GovTrack ( for U.S. politicians ); 538 ( for U.S.

Political News

Be Informed, Be Aware: As I noted above, a free press is critical to a healthy democracy. But it’s not just about politics—it’s also about keeping an eye on local news near me 2022 . Local news is more than just car crashes and law enforcement stories. It’s about providing insight into what issues your neighbors face on a daily basis and building a better community for everyone. Local papers also provide valuable context during times of tragedy; when natural disasters strike or senseless violence occurs, community members can gain perspective from reading thorough local reporting.
You can support local news by subscribing to a newspaper in your area. Another option is to get involved—often, papers are always looking for volunteers who want to write stories, take photographs or edit footage. And if you’re looking for some good books on journalism, I highly recommend The Story of Business by Philip Delves Broughton and Better Than Free: How a Community of Volunteers Can Preserve Culture, Create New Stuff and Make Money (Hint: It’s Not as Hard as You Think) by Eric Klinenberg. If you’re interested in becoming an investigative reporter someday, I would highly recommend News for All the People: The Epic Story of Race and the American Media by Juan Gonzalez.
